Volunteering

I am among the ranks of individuals who give back to my community through volunteering.

I serve with RUACH: Emotional and Spiritual Support, an all volunteer organization that provides brief, listening support (not psychotherapy) remotely to people. To learn more about it, see RUACH Support

I know I am in good company as a volunteer.

You yourself may be a volunteer. If not, it might be an avenue worth exploring. As a volunteer, not only do you reap intangible rewards, but it can also lead to personal or professional growth, and job opportunities, not to mention usually provide opportunities to connect with some very decent people.

Recently, in my volunteering with RUACH, I agreed to my very first podcast appearance on Seekers of Meaning, a podcast program with JewishSacredAging.com in order to promote RUACH’s services.

HERE’S A TAKEAWAY FOR THOSE SEARCHING FOR A THERAPIST:
CHECK OUT HOW THE THERAPIST GIVES BACK TO THE COMMUNITY,
IN ADDITION TO ASKING ABOUT A SLIDING SCALE.
SEE IF YOU ARE ELIGIBLE FOR THAT SERVICE.

For instance:

  • Many therapists ease financial burdens of clients by accepting lower fees for their services through participation in insurance panels.
  • Some therapists do pro bono work with a clinic or through an organization.
  • Some are members of collectives that advocate and provide affordable counseling to people who have financial need and meet certain program eligibility requirements.
(I proudly display the logo of one called Open Path, of which I am a member).
